There was no peace or tranquility due to motors screeching and clanging all day. The staff literally sleeps in the window and the whole place was under construction. I only stayed here because I needed a hotel last min and this was the cheapest. My only complaint was that there was no hot water early in the morning. The motel is about a mile from I-10, and fast surface streets let you bypass I-10 to downtown. There's a McDonald's a 2-minute walk away, and a Belize (the country) restaurant on the property that I didn't try. There are lots of major stores in the area: a big Target across the street, CVS and Ralph's supermarket in a shopping center a couple of minutes away, and many more. The three people I saw on staff were friendly and helpful. Having the front door always open to the street (with security at night) helped the relaxed feel: It told me that the area was safe and there weren't people hanging out nearby. My second-floor room had a window that opened using the bathroom exhaust fan (which pulled a lot of air from the window) made it easy to freshen up the room. Unlike some budget motels, my very big room had furniture that matched, fairly large fridge and TV, several mirrors, clean carpet without holes, a comfortable king bed, and quiet (though maybe that's because it was mid-October and not busy). The only other motel in Goldthwaite is just up the road from this one, and I doubt it is much, if any different or better. I didn't argue with him and paid our bill. Yes, I know the check out time is 11:00 a.m., but come on - he hadn't even cleaned the room yet. Very surprised that the room had not been cleaned - and that the manager (same guy) still charged us for a full day. We were up early the next day to go hunting, and didn't return to our room until 5:00 p.m. But the beds were comfortable, and it beat trying to become human popsicles in the deer camp. There was a full sized refrigerator and microwave in the room, but there aren't any vending machines or eating places close by. Cleanliness - in your dreams! We found a shredded phone book in the drawers, and a (frozen) pot pie still in the freezer. Shower - uh, no way! The drain is so clogged that the tub immediately fills with water when you turn on the faucet. Towels - forget it! I've seen used gauze pads that had more substance. The manager said he had turned on the heat in our room - and he wasn't kidding.the room was toasty warm (heat was on "Maximum" setting). The manager was very courteous and thoughtful - we indicated we would arrive around 6:00-7:00 p.m., but we were delayed because we had to field dress our game - by that time, the temperature had dropped to 8 degrees. Minuses: meh, about everything else that civilized people expect in a motel. Plusses: it was warm and dry, and it had an indoor toilet. There was no way we were going to try to stay overnight in the cabin, so I opted to stay at the Relax Inn instead. The temperature on the days we were there to hunt on was about 15 degrees (5 degrees with the wind chill factor). There is a small, unheated, non-insulated one room cabin for our use on the ranch. My son and I hunt off a small, privately owned ranch in the Goldthwaite, TX area. If/when I return to Goldthwaite, I will stay somewhere else, even if it involves driving. No hair dryer but they did have those little packets of shampoo. Neither the sink nor bathtub had a drain stopper. Two double beds, the only choice, were actually comfortable. Room smelled slightly musty when we first went in the noisy but effective wall unit air conditioner took care of that in short order. There was a scary looking ice machine on property I didn't attempt it. My room had an apartment sized refrigerator and a small microwave, both of which worked well. No food or coffee, but that was OK there is a Texaco convenience store next door, a Dairy Queen across the road and two good restaurants in town, 5 minutes away. Located on the outskirts of town, the area felt safe enough-good thing because the door had a lock and key that appeared to be from the 1960's. This is your quintessential cheap motel, from worn, mismatched furniture to a tiny room. Hotels near The Mills County Sheriff’s Office.
